TI is a semi company, they have all kinds of chips. //@Anonymous: with the chip shortage, this should go up in price even more. the chips inside these things probably 20 years old, who has that anymore?

I don't know how TI made the list of "qualified calculators for tests", but surely its a sweet deal for them. Year after year, high schools kids have to buy them. To me the tech on these calculators are kind of ancient, and any $5 app on the smart phone can beat it easily.

We disprove how the TI controls the market and had refused to buy one for a long time. On the other hand, I’m so glad that I ordered one a couple weeks ago. My 9th grader was able to use TI during his math test right away! I often pays just as much for a Cross fountain pen anyway!

If your engineering students are going to take PE exam(s), please read below: "To protect the integrity of its exams, NCEES limits the types of calculators examinees may bring to exam sites. The list of approved calculators is reviewed annually.
The following calculator models are the only ones acceptable for use during the 2020 exams:
Casio: All fx-115 and fx-991 models (Any Casio calculator must have “fx-115” or “fx-991” in its model name.)Hewlett Packard: The HP 33s and HP 35s models, but no othersTexas Instruments: All TI-30X and TI-36X models (Any Texas Instruments calculator must have “TI-30X” or “TI-36X” in its model name.)" //@Anonymous: I am using a Ti-84 Plus CE from several years ago. Previously, I used my Casio to get my Ph.D. degrees. But, I will never go back to Casio again. TI is fantastic.
BTW: I teach college-level engineering mechanics. TI-84 plus is good enough for most engineering courses, but I will recommend a newer/higher version.

I had a Casio graphing calc in hs. Piece of junk used coin cell batteries that needed replacing every 3 weeks. When I got to university, I skipped the "kids" calculators and bought an HP RPN

I still have my casio scientific calculator from 30+ years ago and it still works. It got me through 2 engineering degrees. They might have been the first to have calculators with continuous calculation (exe instead of equal sign). I bought one of those TI financial calculators just for my professional engineering exam and it broke right after. I think there is a conspiracy to promote TI products in the US in schools. Just look at a syllabus and see if there is mention of casio. Casio was better than TI in my days and I still think it is.

This thing is a thing of the past (kinda) because many Monitors come with USB-c charging and display. Just connect keyboard and mouse to Monitor, then only thing you need is a high speed USB-C from monitor to laptop. Of course, if you need more USB to dongles and other things like LAN port, you still need a docking station.
Anonymous
Just ignore. Guy thinks he understands tech but doesn’t appear to know who uses these. Not the same refresh rate nor charging output of a dongle. //@anonymous: I have 1 of these. It is basically a hub with different ports that connects to your laptop via a single USB-C cable. //@anonymous: Laptop docking station is a thing of the past. What you need now is a USB hub that supports USB C/3.0/charging and HDMI. There are so many of them in the $20-$50 range. This one is too bulky and extremely overpriced. That being said, it supports 5k video or up to three 4k video output. If you need that many UHD output, then this is for you. On the other hand, if you use three 4k monitors, you probably need a monstrous desktop, not a laptop.

I bought this stuff like a year or two ago, 2 for $50. From Costco.
After a year of use, one of them was broken - the button doesn't light up, the mixer doesn't work at all. I then opened the bottom cover, and inside there was a lot of leaked stuff. Some wire attaching point is broken, and after I re-attached that point, it still doesn't work, so I left it there.
Now I'm using the second one. Hopefully it can last longer.
I would say it's certainly not worth the price I paid. For $20 a pair, I don't know.

This post is insanely incorrect about inkjet printers. Inkjet printers from the past 10 years have no problem running with proper maintenance, which is extremely miniscule dusting, scanner lens wiping, and ink cartridge shaking. Laser printers have more maintenance requirements than inkjets due to drums. //@anonymous: Buy use for 2 yrs return since the design hasn't really changed 9 yrs+ xp-200. Printer good for 2 yrs then needs head clean 2-3x b4 can print/wastes ink. New cartridges will get u about 5 pgs.
Anonymous
Wrong. Laser printers are better in more climates and seasons due to no risk of ink and solvent becoming seperated or tampered viscosity. High temps can cause printheads to misinterpret ink as thin and accidentally cause excess ink to be used. This affects efficiency as well as quality of prints. Overall, ink printers are too temperature sensitive whereas laser can operate in a higher range without change. Laser printers are susceptible to static during dryness of winter months but thats the only downside (static interferes with attraction of toner). Laser prints not only have higher yield, commonly around 1500 pages which can last for years, but they print faster and have vibrant colors. Inkjets are cheap, but manufacturers make most money from high ink prices while laser printers are expensive but 3rd party toner is cheap. I personally use inkjet because I have free hp instant ink subscription but if I didnt, I would use laser. //@anonymous: laser printer is just faster. No other pros. //@Anonymous: Buy laser printer and thank me later
