The M1 version doesn't suffer the low band issue in the 256Gb model. And you probably don't use it open a hundred tabs and two IDE windows with Docker containers in the back. If 256G was not a single module like M1 Air, this is a great choice, but since it is not, go either m1 air or m1 pro, depending on your needs. I got both, one for my daughter and one for me, and yes, I tried M2 256G and M2 512G, but the former is slow, the latter is too expensive compared to its capability.

i bought three 4tb and two 2tb of them as a photographer, i fill them on a daily basis....2tb are dead, didnt even make it 6 months, before files went missing or corrupt. two of the 4tb developed same issues just took 9-10 months....sandisk replaced them all, and i sold the new ones they sent me. changed over to a usb-c nvme enclosure and nvme drives, no issues. //@Anonymous: Just because most people bought 2TB version.
